Forum Program

The Recreational Forum will bring together fishers, researchers, policymakers, Traditional Owners, community leaders, and industry advocates from across the country for a dynamic program of presentations, panel discussions, and networking.

This year’s Forum will centre on three key themes shaping the future of recreational fishing in Australia:

How Do We Value Recreational Fishing?

Explore the different values of recreational fishing, unpacking what fishing means to different communities down to a regional level. How it’s measured, and how we can better communicate it's importance.

Stewardship

Dive into how recreational fishers are stewards of our waterways, not only by practicing sustainability but also by building social acceptance and storytelling.

Women in Fishing

Explore how to grow women’s participation by addressing barriers, understanding the market, and improving outreach to better engage this growing segment of recreational fishers.

Recreational Fishing Data

Examine how recreational fishing data informs management decisions, supports service delivery, and raises important questions about data ownership and access within the sector.

Interested in running a workshop?

We're inviting passionate individuals, organisations, and experts from across the recreational fishing community to submit expressions of interest to run a workshop at the Recreational Fishing Forum. Workshops are a chance to dive deeper into key topics, share hands-on knowledge, spark new ideas, and connect with attendees in a more interactive format.

Whether your focus is on education, innovation, research, conservation, community engagement, or lived experience – we’d love to hear from you.

If you're interested in running a workshop, please get in touch with us at ARFF2025@theeventgap.com.au to start the conversation.
